I can't tell if I do like the series but I'm sure that I do not hate it either. One reason that I could think of is attributed to it's beautifully crafted visuals and animation that is rare for an anime series - KyoAni definitely scored perfect on this and I hope every studio in Japan was challenged to surpass it's visual excellence.
The start was nothing special aside from my repeating compliments of it's animation. Story, Characters and any other else is not something worthy of praise, all of which are very ordinary. Being classified as one of the mystery anime though left an impression to me that there will be something magical that will happen or something that is complex that will be opened on it's future episodes. I guess that episode 3 will shape things up for the viewers and will be the start for serious matters that the characters will work on.
Average as it may looks and off with a very Moe start, Hyouka has the Spark for something Big. My hunch tells me that this will be another Otaku Bandwagon as the story goes. What interests me though are the Characters, I find the traits of the protagonists very similar to my lazy attitude and those sleepy eyes reminds me of what I am in my youthful days. His close friend Satoshi has this cheerful aura, a good icebreaker if the mood goes in a bad way. Chitanda and Miyaka both have similar traits the only difference is that Chitanda has a more appealing voice and curiosity that is irritatingly cute.
Those solved mysteries does have a subtle impact and I'm sure that it's just an appetizer for something big. Hyouka may not appeal to almost everyone but I'm sticking on to it! And it's probably the first Moe series that I will finish this 2012.
