Since it's recognized as a shounen anime, I was hoping that this will be similar to Naruto or Bleach but it seems that I'm wrong and Fairy Tail shifts differently to traditional shounen anime that we're used to. I welcomed the changes with open mind but I guess I'm forcing myself too much. I dropped the anime when I reached the 80th episode and gave the Anime the verdict it deserves.
Fairy Tail's greatest weapon is how the anime contained it's action and comedy. It's best strength lies on the two, I'm not saying that it has the mind blowing fight scenes and humor that will kill you to death but it stands out compared to other series of the similar genre.
Do not expect too much on the story! as it just sucks. It drifted too much away to the goal of the main character (Natsu) of the story so you'll get lost thinking how important a specific arc is. I suggest the viewers to just enjoy the anime. The arcs are amazingly short so missing a couple of episodes doesn't matter much. You can easily enjoy the anime even if you miss 5 - 10 episodes or so.
There's less ( no ) character development so those exciting emotions won't trigger which fails much on the anime. I don't understand why this was never highlighted as I believe that it's a very important aspect for a shounen anime. Emotion is a powerful motivator when watching a shounen anime so why is this lacking? I guess this is just the way Fairy Tail is and it upsets me, there's so much potential in the show if there's character development to the main guys in the guild.
Though the number of characters in Fairy Tail increase as the show progress it's still unbelievable that they're putting efforts in covering each of the important guild members. And I guess this would just span the franchise for a few more episodes to concentrate on the members. My prediction could be off but I have a big hunch that it will happen. Just look out at the previous episodes and you'll see the pattern.
Fairy Tail could have been part of the A list but sadly it's not. Given that there's a much interesting animes out there I dropped it in my To-Watch list. Should I recommend it to anyone? Yes of course! Fairy Tail is good! it's just that it's not meant for me and I guess someone who's already used to traditional shounen anime. Oh yeah before I forget "Groove Adventure Rave" is another anime similar to the show and was written also by Hiro Mashima and is much better too. Fairy Tail scores a B+ from me.
